Paw It Forward: What To Do With Leftover Pet Supplies
Did your cat’s taste buds change? Is there a toy your dog doesn’t like or a bed they’ve outgrown? Perhaps you have pet medical supplies that are no longer needed, or a spring clean revealed a mountain of extra towels and blankets.
We’ve put together a guide on what to do with leftover pet supplies, with a list of organisations that can use these donations to help pets and people in need.
Safe Pets Safe Families
Safe Pets Safe Families is a South Australian charity that supports the pets of vulnerable people, such as those experiencing homelessness or domestic violence. They lead a variety of community initiatives, ranging from temporary crisis foster care, free veterinary care for the homeless, and youth education programs designed to reduce animal abuse.
Their Fill Their Bowl Project accepts donated pet food and pet supplies and redistributes them to people in crisis or hardship, so their pets can be cared for. By providing this essential support, they help keep pets and their owners together, preventing unnecessary surrenders and euthanasia.

RSPCA
The RSPCA animal shelter accepts a range of pet supplies from unopened food to towels, kitty litter, food bowls and newspaper.
The donated goods are used to help animals in the shelter as they wait to find their forever homes.

Animal Welfare League (AWL)
The AWL accepts pet supplies such as unopened food, blankets, toys, treats, medical supplies and cat litter.
The donated goods are used to help animals in the shelter as they wait to find their forever homes. Donated food supports vulnerable pet owners in the community.

Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC)
ARC is a charity that redistributes supplies across a national network of rescuers to support animals in care. They are a major provider to WIRES, Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation.
They accept a wide variety of donations, including cat and dog food, cat litter, bandages, and medical supplies. Additionally, their Animal Rescue Craft Guild produces and distributes pouches, beds, and specialised equipment to support rescued animals and native wildlife.
